It's Prom time again! For many it is the first time going to such an important and memory making event. Just scroll to the bottom of this page for tips to help you make it a memorable time in all the right ways!
Meeting you date’s parents? Is this the first encounter of
the parental kind? Don’t worry. Just extend your hand, make
eye contact and say,” Hi, my name is _____.” Relax and have
fun. Always tell her parents that it was nice to meet
them – that’s a great way to make a good impression. Be very
polite, sit up straight and be respectful. You’ll look
great in your prom tux. Oh, don’t forget to get a
clear answer of when they expect their daughter home, angry
parents are not a good way to end such a wonderful
night.
All
girls like flowers! Go to
your local florist as soon as you know the color of your date’s
dress so you can order her corsage (in matching
colors). Receiving a corsage from her date is one of the
things a girl looks forward to with her prom experience.
Ordering ahead of time assures you will get beautiful
flowers that will impress your date with your thoughtfulness.
Corsages can be worn two ways, on the wrist or pinned to the
lapel. Ask your date which she prefers with her dress
style before ordering.
The
Limo – What do I tip? In a
large city, a limo driver should be tipped 20% (in a smaller
city the tip can be 15%) of the total bill. If you are
paying when you reach your prom destination, add the tip to the
fare. If you are being billed, ask for the tip to be
added on to your bill. Too complicated? Just take
your usual ride to the prom, but be sure to wash it and clean
out the inside… your date won’t appreciate empty food
wrappers stuck to her fancy prom dress.
Either way, limo or
your own ride, remember to always open the door for your date
and close the door behind her. Gentlemanly manners
never go out of style and it makes her feel special,
just what you want her to feel on this special night.
Restaurantitis? Do
yourself a monetary favor. Check out the menu of your chosen
restaurant before prom night so there are no surprises
or late-night dish washing incidents. Just keep your
budget in mind when picking “the place”… it won’t impress your
prom date if you have to ask her for help picking up
the tab.
Call 2 to 3 weeks before the prom to guarantee a
reservation, then call a few days before the Prom to
confirm your reservation. Remember, ladies are always seated
first and order first. During meals using all the
manners your mother tried to teach you will mean very
much to your date, it will show her you respect her. Be sure to
have enough money left to tip the waiter!
Tuxedo Tips Is this your first time wearing a
tuxedo? For many it is! Have confidence in the opinion of
The Party Pit staff, your tuxedo provider, we have helped many
others look great for special events like Prom and
weddings. We want you to be comfortable and happy with
your tuxedo experience so be sure to ask any questions you have
or voice any concerns. You are a walking advertisement
and your happiness is important to us. Using studs and
cufflinks can be tricky so be sure to ask us how to use them if
you are unsure. That goes for any part of your tuxedo
if this is your first time. Tuxedos do not fit like
your every day clothes and therefore may seem to “fit funny” and
not look like what you are used to wearing. There are
many styles available to fit your taste and style, just
ask!
Always be sure to wear dress
socks with your tuxedo. White socks with ivory and white
tuxedos and black socks with gray and black tuxedos, sweat socks
are a major no-no with a tuxedo! Also, wear an
undershirt beneath your dress shirt because you will want to
relax and take off your jacket and vest when you begin to dance.
